The Coast Guard is in charge of the search and rescue operations and cleared Carnival Glory to proceed to Montego Bay as scheduled. According to the cruise line’s website, the 952-foot-long Carnival Glory can hold up to 2,980 passengers and 1,150 crew members. The missing man’s sister, Destiny Barnett, told NBC News that she and 13 other relatives were also on the cruise.

The male guest, whose name has not been released to safeguard the family’s privacy, was reported missing at approximately noon on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 2022. Monday in his cabin as the Carnival Conquest reported back to the Port of Miami, Carnival said in a statement Tuesday. He was reported missing by his family and "was not located on board despite an extensive search." While the chances of falling off a cruise ship are extremely low, at least nine other people have gone overboard this year, as BI previously reported. But BI previously reported that many ships had yet to implement newer technology that automatically detects when a person goes overboard by using thermal cameras and radars that promptly alert crew members.
